    The Maker:

    Nat Weston

The husband of Ali's Wagon owner Jessie Menken, is a professor of environmental science at Villanova by day and ... everything else at night! Several years ago Nat and Jessie went looking for a Philly cityscape design similar to ones they loved of New York City and L.A. and found the concept didn't yet exist for Philadelphia! So Nat started to hand draw all the landmarks we know and love so they could create a design with a local view point that could be made into unique items for the home. It took a bit of time working on designs, in between the hours he dedicates to help run the store behind the scenes, but we think they were so worth the wait!

    Baisun Candle Co.

Growing up in the US with a Chinese-American background, Brandon Baisun found it difficult to connect with his culture while balancing his first-generation American identity. As he grew older, Brandon realized that food had played an essential role in his appreciation and understanding of his heritage and where his roots came from. He developed an association of comfort with the familiar Asian flavors that he could always come home to.

Brandon founded Baisun Candle Co. in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, in hopes to reconnect with his culture & heritage. Whenever he felt homesick, his instinct was  to go to the closest Chinatown market or H-mart. When he indulged in Asian snacks like hawflakes and Melona bars while breathing in the aromas of star anise and dried chrysanthemum– ingredients not typically found at your local “international foods” aisle- he felt a connection.  Brandon is able to share the lessons and history behind the Asian scents and flavors we enjoy while making “this smells like home” a more accessible phrase to the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) community & allies with our hand crafted, clean-burning, phthalate, and paraben-free soy candles.

In Chinese, ‘Baisun’ means “to pray for one’s ancestors”.
